This week in history: Royal Palm Beach incorporated

In 1956 Food Fair grocery store founder Samuel Friedland bought the 100-plus square mile Indian Trail Ranch in western Palm Beach County. In early 1959 Friedland sold 3,750 acres to Lefcourt Corp., Royal Palm Beach’s first developer, and on June 20, 1959, the village of Royal Palm Beach was incorporated.

From a 1960 advertisement luring homebuyers to the “brilliant new Gold Coast city.” The first homes in the village were selling for $8,750 to $12,400.
