This week in history: Town of Bocaratone (that’s not a typo) incorporated
On August 2, 1924, during the height of the Florida land boom, the Town of Bocaratone was incorporated. The town began using the “Boca Raton” spelling on May 5, 1925, when the Florida legislature officially recognized the municipality. George Long served as the first appointed mayor from August 1924 until John Brown was elected mayor in 1925.
