April Fool’s Day 1978

“Beware of a courier bearing flowers. The bouquet may be fragrant with pungent comment.”

So begins the story of Forest Hill High School’s student council 1978 flower sale, an April Fool’s Day twist on the Valentine’s Day tradition, offering buyers the option of sending a bag of weeds to unsuspecting recipients. The student council president reported 1,300 orders for daisies and 420 for weeds, perhaps proving that romantics outnumbered jokers in the Forest Hill High School student population.
