Big Man On Campus- Dr. Donald Warren, Born May 18, 1927, Cardiologist And Backer Of Palm Beach Atlantic College

Because he tended the hearts of Palm Beach County’s richest and poorest for more than 40 years as one of the area’s first cardiologists.
Because he’s the founding-and-still chairman of the board of Palm Beach Atlantic College, a hands-on civic service job he’s toiled at for 35 years through good and bad times.
Because he’s been the very backbone of the little Baptist school that he helped nurture into a thriving, four-year, liberal arts institution on the cusp of becoming a university.
Because he seized the opportunity of circumstance and persuaded his wealthy patients to contribute to good causes, especially a college that emphasizes work and worship as well as learning, and hospitals that need the charity of the rich to treat the needs of the poor.
Because tough-minded tycoons such as John D. MacArthur, Marshall “Doc” Rinker and Theodore Johnson trusted him with their hearts and their money so fully that they gave tens of millions of dollars to those causes.
Because you won’t find a “Donald Eugene Warren” building or bridge or fountain – not even a charity golf tournament – proclaiming his works.
Because he says there’s something better than having his name spread around: “I know what I’ve done – I can see it.”
Because he lists his home phone number in the book and always has.
Because he says the best inscription for his tombstone would be this:
He kept at it.
